We develop, manufacture, and supply hardware and software to improve the productivity, quality, safety, and sustainability of the earthmoving industry. Our customers are earthmoving contractors and construction equipment manufacturers.

We are a team of 140+ professionals with more then 30 years of experience in machine control. Our headquarters is located in Pirkkala, Finland. Our products are distributed worldwide through a network of partners.

Our story

The Novatron story officially began on 13 February 1991. Founded by Jukka Tervahauta, the company started in a modest 15 m2 office in the centre of Tampere, Finland. Two years later, the company changed its legal form to a limited liability company.

Novatron’s first product was the TM-10, a grader blade inclinometer, which was launched the same year the company was founded. The simple analogue display replaced the spirit level on the machine frame. However, the market for grader inclinometers was not that big, so it was time to go back to the drawing board.

The next product was the excavator depth monitor whose sensor technology was patented in the Nordic countries, Germany and the USA. The product was simple to manufacture and use as it was based on very traditional analogue technology. There were no bugs in the software because there was no software. An upgraded version of the first excavator monitor had two buttons instead of one. However, the additional button made the product less usable, at least according to one customer: “Too many buttons, don’t know which one to press”. The world has changed a lot since those days.

At Novatron, the GPS system was first applied to machine positioning in the late 1990s. The first tests of the excavator GPS system were carried out in Norway in 1999. Little did anyone realize at the time how important satellite positioning would become in the control of heavy construction machinery. The early 2000s saw a switch to PC technology and the Windows operating system. Since then, Novatron has invested heavily in the development of 3D measurement applications for construction machinery.

Today, Novatron is a major international technology provider, whose solutions are used around the world to improve productivity in infrastructure construction. Our core competencies in software and hardware are complemented by our strong expertise in the digitalization of the construction sector. From a one-man business, Novatron has grown into a technology company with more than 140 employees and is at the forefront of developments in its field.

The certificate is valid for the following scope:
Development, manufacturing, installation, maintenance and support of machine control systems as well as training services for digitalized earthmoving.
